Membership and Outreach Coordinator
A. Position Title/Basic Description: Membership and Outreach Coordinator
The primary purpose of this position is to promote FUS as a warm and welcoming Humanist UU community to visitors, members, and the greater community, and to work to ensure that FUS meets the needs of visitors and members with sensitivity and understanding.
Weekly duties consist of approximately 4 hours on Sunday morning, from 9:00 - 1:00, greeting and interacting with visitors and members, helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, answering questions and communicating enthusiasm for FUS and for the presence of visitors.
The remaining 12 hours per week can be worked during regular weekday hours in a schedule negotiated by the employee and the Senior Minister. These hours will be devoted to additional membership development and coordination of the Society's advertising and public relations. Public relations efforts will include creating and placing advertisements and press releases, developing neighborhood connections, and raising community awareness of the Society. Candidate will work with staff, lay leaders, and the senior minister as needed. Compensation and benefits are competitive and dependent on qualifications.
B. FTE % and hours: .4 FTE, 16 hours per week. Four hours must be on Sunday morning, 9:00 - 1:00; remaining hours are flexible.
C. Education required
No specific level of education required, although college level writing and communication skills are desired.
D. Experience required
Membership or volunteer recruitment experience, public relations and/or sales experience and work experience in an office setting preferred.
E. Primary skills required
- Friendly, warm, outgoing personality
- Have or be willing to acquire a thorough understanding of Unitarian Universalism and how FUS exists within the larger UU context. Able to articulate the history and philosophy of the UUA, FUS, and Humanism.
- Self-motivated and able to take initiative
- Able to organize and prioritize work
- Able to work well in a team
- Able to delegate responsibility to volunteers
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Able to listen and respond with compassion
- Enjoy interaction with people
- Enthusiasm for and creativity in volunteer recruitment
- PR or sales knowledge
- Modest level of comfort and competency with desktop publishing and database use/maintenance.
