First Unitarian Society
Volunteer Work
The First Unitarian Society offers a great many volunteer opportunities within the Society and in the wider community. We are all part of a community which depends on the efforts of volunteers to survive. Please review the variety of opportunities to participate in and see where your talents and interests may be most useful and meaningful to you. We need everyone to get involved.
Catering
The Alliance and other members of the Society provide catering services at modest rates for wedding celebrations and memorial services. A volunteer catering staff operates this service as an Alliance fundraiser, with proceeds going to building and grounds improvements. Additional cooks, servers and project supervisors are needed to help with the catering service.

Coffee, tea, juice, and cookies are served on Sundays at the conclusion of the Assembly in the Lower Assembly Hall. This is an important time for members, friends and visitors of all ages to come together for informal conversation and an opportunity to make new acquaintances, as well as to renew old ones. Please call the office to arrange a Sunday date to serve and set up or to volunteer to fill in when substitutes are needed.

As a Greeter, you may be the most important person a Sunday visitor meets. If you enjoy making people feel welcome and sharing your enthusiasm for the Society, we have the job for you. At least two greeters are needed at each entrance to the Society every Sunday morning.Contact: tbd

Religious Education Volunteers
Working with the children and youth in the religious education program at FUS is a privilege and a gift. About 125 FUS people, both parents and other Society members, volunteer to run the classes and youth groups each year. There are many opportunities to volunteer, including the following:
- Childcare during the forum, 9:30 a.m.-10:15 a.m.
- Working in the nursery and pre-school with our little ones
- Teaching kids in K-6th grades.
- Being a youth group leader for the junior or senior high group
- Volunteering to help out in short-term projects that come up
- Volunteering to be a substitute teacher.
